Post-Op-Crown-Bridge-Veneers

hank you for allowing us to provide you with the smile you desire. Oral prostheses are used to treat or correct appearance and speech caused by disease or injury. Your restoration will add to the life span of your tooth, protect your tooth and in the case of a cosmetic restoration, add to the beauty and function of your dentition.

Please be aware of these items:

  1. If you were anesthetized, the numbness will last approximately 2 – 4 hours. Please be careful to avoid biting your lip, tongue or cheek while numb. Also, avoid hot coffee or other beverages while numb.
  2. It is common to experience soreness in the jaw around the site of the injection. If this doesn’t go away within 3 – 4 days, please let us know.
  3. If you experience a sensation that your teeth are not coming together properly or it feels “high”, please call us for a simple adjustment.
  4. If you experience any severe pain or swelling, please let us know.
  5. Advil, Motrin or Aleve is the recommended medication for any of these symptoms (for patients not allergic to these products).

PORCELAIN VENEERS

  • The veneer may make the tooth feel thicker. The veneer, however, is only as thick as a fingernail, except in those places where a tooth was crooked, and extra thickness of porcelain was used to make the tooth look straight. It usually seems thicker right when the veneer is placed because we made the teeth slightly thinner in preparing them.
  • Be careful with activities that stress the teeth, such as chewing ice or metal objects.
  • If you are involved in contact sports, clench or grind your teeth at night, you should wear a protective mouth guard or night guard to help prevent chipping of the veneers.
  • Brush and floss conscientiously to protect your investment. Special cleaning procedures by the hygienist can help keep the margins of the veneers bright and extend their life. We recommend twice yearly regular cleanings.

PERMANENT CROWNS

Crowns are a very durable restoration, and we ordinarily look for at least ten to fifteen years of trouble-free service out of a crown. You should be able to chew without sensitivity with a crown. If there is any chewing sensitivity, please come in for an adjustment.

  • You will need to give the cement one hour to fully harden before chewing, you may then eat what they want.
  • Floss around the crown and brush well, as the part of the tooth that is not covered by the crown, especially the margin where the tooth meets the crown, is still susceptible to decay.
  • If you have sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures, it is usually transient and should go away within a couple of weeks.
